Earlier known as Kondhana Fort, named after the sage Kaundinya, Sinhagad Fort holds a glorious past and deep-rooted historical significance. Situated in the Sahyadri Mountains, the fort stands as a proud symbol of Maratha valour and strategic brilliance. It is most renowned for the historic Battle of Sinhagad in 1670, fought by the brave Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare, the Subhedar of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, making it one of Maharashtra’s most revered heritage sites. Within the fort premises lie the samadhi (tomb) of Tanaji Malusare and the samadhi of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj, drawing history enthusiasts, devotees, and cultural travellers alike. The presence of two ancient temples further enhances the fort’s spiritual and historical importance.
