    About MTDC

Five decades of hosting Maharashtra Unlimited — from roadside rest houses to 38 resorts from the Konkan coast to the forests of Vidarbha.

    Editor's NoteSince 1975

A short history of Maharashtra hospitality.

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation was incorporated in 1975 by the Government of Maharashtra as the commercial arm of the state's tourism department. What began as roadside rest houses has grown into 38 owned resorts — sea-facing cottages at Tarkarli and Ganpatipule, colonial rooms in Matheran, monsoon retreats at Malshej Ghat and Bhandardara, heritage stays at Ajanta and Ellora, jungle lodges at Tadoba, Pench and Navegaon, and pilgrim accommodation at Shirdi.

Every MTDC resort is staffed by locals, sourced from nearby farmers and fishermen, and serves regional Maharashtrian cuisine — Malvani fish thali on the coast, Varhadi and Saoji inland. Direct bookings on this site always receive the government tariff, with no channel mark-ups.

This journal is our guide to Maharashtra Unlimited — the full MTDC portfolio of resorts, offers and experiences, bookable direct.
